MAP Reading is this Monday, May 22nd. They will need plenty of sleep and healthy snacks. Please make sure your child has working headphones. If you feel your child needs extra practice with their reading or math skills at this time please feel free to have them work on iXL Math or iXL Language Arts (Reading), Reflex Math, and Raz-Kids Reading on their iPad at home. They know how to access all of these programs. Please remember to charge your child’s iPad to 100% every school night. We use the iPads throughout the day every day. Please initial days that your child has read 20 minutes on their May reading calendar. There is a goal written on the monthly calendar for the number of days they are expected to read each month. Please check your child’s red homework folder each night. Please keep the reading calendar in the plastic sheet protector in your child’s red homework folder. Our library day is Tuesday. Students are allowed to check out one book. Please feel free to send a healthy snack (fruit, veggies, pretzels, crackers, popcorn, etc.) with your child each day or they may pick up a breakfast sack from school. Reading-Our EL Education Curriculum Unit is focusing on opinion texts and writing opinion pieces. The Fry’s First Words list is in your child’s red homework folder. Please have your child practice reading and spelling these words. They need to be able to quickly read # 1-150 by the end of first grade.
Spelling-Our “Walk to Phonics” Groups are finished. Our last spelling test was today. Language/Grammar/Handwriting-We are reviewing sentences.
Math-The last Math Homework packet was sent home today and will be due next Friday. Please make sure students are tracing all the problems to help practice the skills and handwriting. Please make sure students are practicing their math facts starting with adding 0’s-0+1, 0+2, adding 1’s 1+1, 1+2, adding 2’s 2+2, 2+3.
Social Studies/Science-In Social Studies we are focusing on Geography and in Science we are focusing on Plants and Animals.
PBIS-We continue talking about ways we can be respectful, responsible, and safe, in conjunction with our Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports Program (PBIS). Students are working very hard to earn their Lion Paws! We are working on our Second Step (Social-Emotional Learning) lessons focusing on
solving problems.
